Resources description

Prepared by Ramboll for MedWaves on 19 December 2022 under GEF MedProgramme Child Project 1.1, this report provides technical guidance for Tunisian local expert Saïd Tlig to inventory mercury-containing medical devices in 25 participating healthcare facilities across Tunisia. It aims to generate reliable data for replacing mercury thermometers and sphygmomanometers, safely managing contaminated waste, calculating treatment costs and supporting implementation of the Minamata Convention. The inventory uses a structured questionnaire covering device use and stocks, mercury-free alternatives, procurement requirements, waste-management procedures and replacement plans. The collected data are entered into a standardised spreadsheet and processed using reference estimates of mercury content for each device type to calculate the quantity requiring collection, treatment or replacement.
