Resources description

Organised online by MedWaves, the UNEP/MAP Regional Activity Centre for Sustainable Consumption and Production, and delivered by independent consultant Boudewijn Fokke from 24 to 26 June 2025, this workshop strengthened participants’ capacity to manage sites contaminated with persistent organic pollutants. It brought together 16 representatives from government, the scientific community, civil society, the oil industry, agriculture and the private sector. Based on the Stockholm Convention’s draft guidance on best available techniques and best environmental practices, the workshop addressed the identification, assessment, management and remediation of contaminated sites, including measures to prevent pollutant releases and protect human health. Sessions were delivered in English with simultaneous interpretation into Arabic and combined technical presentations with active discussion and participant engagement.
