Resources description

The MedProgramme represents a pioneering effort, being the first GEF programmatic multi-focal initiative in the Mediterranean region, aiming to operationalize agreed-upon priority actions to reduce major transboundary environmental stresses in its coastal areas, while strengthening climate resilience and water security, as well as improving the health and livelihoods of coastal populations.

The MedProgramme recognizes the role of women and girls as agents of change and implements its gender mainstreaming strategy which is a key pillar of the programme, outlines specific gender activities undertaken in a set timeframe, with targets, budget and responsibilities assigned to the relevant executing and national partners.

The programme’s approach goes beyond technical concepts and its gender equality approach prioritises data and gender-sensitive indicators. These indicators must be developed not only in the fields of demography and decision-making, but also across all sectors linked to these core areas.
